Jamaica 2025– Our First Adventure

Negril → Kingston → Port Antonio → Windsor Forest

Jamaica holds a special place in the story of Project 1177. While the island isn’t home to one of the New Seven Wonders of the World and didn’t take us to a new continent, it became the trip that proved the idea behind this journey could actually work. Before planning larger adventures around the world, we needed a proving ground — a place where we could test how our family travels together, how we plan, film, and document these experiences, and whether this vision of exploring the world as a family was truly possible.

Over the course of this trip we explored several very different sides of Jamaica, from the vibrant culture of Kingston to the relaxed beaches of Negril and the lush natural beauty of Port Antonio. It was a journey that reminded us that travel is as much about the people you meet and the stories you experience as it is about the places themselves. Most importantly, Jamaica showed us that Project 1177 wasn’t just an idea; it was something we could actually do.

Negril

Negril is famous for its stunning coastline and relaxed atmosphere, and it quickly became one of the most memorable stops on our journey through Jamaica. Known for its long stretch of white sand along Seven Mile Beach and its dramatic cliffside sunsets, Negril perfectly captures the laid-back spirit that Jamaica is known for.

During our stay in Negril we were hosted by The Charela Inn, a beautiful beachfront hotel located directly on Seven Mile Beach. The Charela Inn combines classic Caribbean charm with incredible access to the beach, making it an ideal base for exploring everything the area has to offer.

From early morning walks along the shoreline to watching the sun disappear over the Caribbean Sea each evening, Negril gave us a chance to slow down and enjoy one of Jamaica’s most iconic coastal destinations.

Kingston

Kingston is the cultural and historical heart of Jamaica and offers a completely different perspective from the country’s beach destinations. As the capital city, Kingston blends music, history, art, and everyday Jamaican life into a vibrant and energetic urban environment.

During our time in Kingston we explored some of the places that have helped shape Jamaican culture, from the legacy of reggae music to the city’s markets, museums, and historic neighborhoods. Kingston offers a deeper look at the island’s identity beyond the tourist areas and gives visitors a chance to experience the rhythms of daily life in Jamaica.

For anyone interested in understanding the culture and history of the island, Kingston provides an essential starting point.

Port Antonio

Port Antonio offers a completely different side of Jamaica compared to the larger tourist centers. Located on the island’s northeastern coast, the area is surrounded by lush mountains, quiet beaches, and some of the most beautiful natural landscapes in the country.

Unlike the busy resort areas, Port Antonio feels quieter and more connected to the island’s natural environment. The region is known for its waterfalls, rivers, and scenic coastline, making it a perfect destination for travelers who want to experience Jamaica’s outdoor beauty.

Our time in Port Antonio allowed us to explore a more relaxed and authentic side of the island, where nature, small communities, and breathtaking scenery come together to create a truly unforgettable part of Jamaica.
